After much experimentation, I've found the most beautiful, effective, handy, and straightforward method—at least, in my opinion. Give this technique a try and see if it becomes your favourite way too!

How to Seamlessly Finish an Amigurumi Ball?

Tips for Invisible Closing of Your Amigurumi Ball

Closing off an Amigurumi ball/part is a crucial step in crocheting perfectly looking cuddly toys and accessories. Often, you might notice a hole at the end of your ball or part. However, you can easily and invisibly close this hole with the right technique. Here's my method, though there are other ways to achieve a beautiful result as well.

 

Steps to Seamlessly Close Your Amigurumi Ball:

  1. Leave a long tail: When you finish the last stitch, cut the yarn leaving a long tail. This provides enough length to neatly close the hole.
  2. Use a tapestry needle: Thread the long tail onto a tapestry needle. A blunt-tipped tapestry needle works best for weaving through stitches without splitting the yarn.
  3. Weave through the front loops: Insert the needle through the front loops of the remaining stitches, from inside to outside. Gently pull the yarn after each stitch to slowly close the hole.
  4. Temporarily pin the hole: This helps you always know where the center of the hole is and prevents accidentally piercing through other loops when securing the yarn.
  5. Pull tight: After weaving through all front loops from inside to outside, pull the yarn tightly. This will completely close the hole and provide a neat, invisible finish.
  6. Hide the yarn tail: Insert the needle through the center of the ball where your pin is, come up in any stitch, and pull the yarn on the other side. Cut the yarn tail short, allowing the end to disappear into the ball's stuffing.
  7. Check your work: Ensure the hole is completely closed and no stuffing is visible.

 

Why This Method Works:

This method works excellently because it closes the hole invisibly without adding extra bulk or irregularities. By weaving the yarn through the front loops from inside to outside, you achieve a tight and even result that gives your Amigurumi ball a professional appearance.

Put a tapestry needle to the long yarn tail and pull it tightly.

From the inside, insert the needle through the outer loop.

In total, around 6 stitches, if you ended with 6 Single Crochets.

You now have this (side).

Insert a pin into the opening so that you still know what the center is when you tighten up the yarn.

Pull the long yarn tightly.

Insert your tapestry needle along the pin into the center and bring it back up through any stitch.

Pull the long yarn tightly and your ball is nicely closed! Cut the yarn!
